Coeur d'Alene Summer Theater Dissolves

By Paige Browning

The board of the Coeur d'Alene Summer Theater voted Monday, Aug. 26th to dissolve the company. Executive Director Michelle Mendez says she, and all other employees, have been let go as of the vote.

The theater board and staff spent the month of August on a vigorous effort to raise enough operating funds to host a 2014 season. Mendez says they raised $60,000 in less than two weeks. But, for lack of sufficient funds, the board voted to dissolve the summer theater. The production of 9-to-5 ended in August as their final show.

Coeur d'Alene Summer Theater put on it's first shows in 1968. Mendez says in recent summer seasons they hired about 100 actors, and saw 22,000 audience members in the crowd.

There are rumors that if enough money still flows into the Save CST campaign, it may prevent the dissolve.
