If you are signed up for private insurance through Washington’s Health Exchange, don’t be surprised if you are asked to prove you are not in jail. The question may come as surprise. But it may come, even if you’ve never been convicted of a crime.

The finger-pointing is underway now that the state of Oregon has decided to scrap its troubled health insurance exchange website. And most of the fingers are being pointed by Republican politicians running for office.

OR- Oregon Considers Dumping Health Website

The technology committee of Cover Oregon has recommended ditching its website and signing up with the federal exchange. Oregon got more than $300 million dollars from the feds to set up a state-of-the-art website to enroll people in health insurance. About $250 million has already been spent.

WA- Basic Health Option for Washingtonians Still Part of Talks

Washington State’s Basic Health program, which helped those with lower incomes gain access to health care, was discontinued when the state created it’s Health Exchange under the Affordable Care Act, and took the federal option of expanding Medicaid. But now, there is an effort to bring it back.

OR- Independent Audit Outlines Problems At Cover Oregon

Oregon's health insurance exchange was riddled with internal conflict and unrealistic expectations. That's according to a scathing audit from an independent consultant released Thursday. Governor John Kitzhaber announced the findings and said among other things, the director of the Oregon Health Authority will be resigning.

Washington state residents still have until the end of the month to sign up for health insurance under the state’s health exchange. Washington Health Plan Finder has made exceptional progress in getting health coverage for many of the state’s uninsured, estimated at about a million people before the Affordable Care Act went into effect.

WA- Bill Would Allow Pre-ACA Insurance Plans in Washington

Efforts are underway in the Washington legislature to allow health insurance plans that do not meet Affordable Care Act standards to be again sold in Washington. Many people in Washington State lost their health insurance policies when the Affordable Care Act went into effect in January. And while president Obama said states could opt to reinstate previous plans for those who lost them, Washington State didn’t take that option.
