Bridge Detour Won’t Rattle Spokane Bus System

By Paige Browning

The Monroe Street Bridge connecting north Spokane to downtown will close June 3rd for about two weeks.  Six bus routes will be detoured, but the bus system says riders don’t need to expect a delay.

Bus 24, the Monroe route, is one of Spokane Transit Authority’s most popular according to communications manager Molly Myers.  It will be interrupted during the two week Monroe Street Bridge closure while crews work on a stormwater project in the Kendall Yards development.  But Myers says, they rehearse.

Myers: “We take busses out on these detour routes, we time the, we plan them so that they meet the current demands that we have.”

The detour information is listed on spokantransit.com and on printed materials available on all detoured busses.

Drivers and pedestrians will also be rerouted, either to use the Maple Street Bridge or the Washington Street Bridge.  Also affected by the closure will be several businesses near Monroe’s bridge, including antique stores and coffee shops.
