Spokane investigators say six law enforcement officers fired guns at the war veteran who led authorities on a freeway chase Wednesday. The 23 -year-old man died at the scene, near Spokane Valley Mall. The Spokane County Medical Examiner has identified him as Jedadiah Zillmer.

The Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team is in charge of the investigation, and says Zillmer had three weapons on his body and was wearing a bullet-proof vest, and more guns in his vehicle. Police say he called 911 around 7:00pm Wednesday and said he was suicidal and wanted law enforcement to kill him, then led them on a freeway chase between Spokane and Coeur d’Alene.

The names of six involved deputies will be released by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. The SIRR Team is interviewing sheriff's deputies and other law enforcement officers who were witnesses at the scene.

Police say Zillmer was a decorated Afghanistan war veteran, who had earned a purple heart.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to call Crime Check in Spokane.
