Village Rock with Tina Bjorklund

KPBX 91.1, Saturday, 9pm-10pm

About Village Rock and Host Tina Bjorklund
I don't remember the year I came to KPBX, but I think it
was 17 or 18 years ago. I was hired by Mary Hawkins and
Brian Flick. I had come in a year earlier to meet Chas and see what it was like at the station. It, and he, were not what I
was used to. Chas had albums, covers, and stacks of music strewn everywhere, but what great stuff! Someone would call, he'd go running down the hall, grab an LP, stick it on the turntable, cue it up, and presto…he was actually playing requests! KPBX started me out on weekends, and gave me Soundspace. Spacemusic, and I added new age jazz and
invited poets up or read it myself. I began filling in for others shifts. I believe I began filling in for Chaz first. Then it was whoever. Brian Flick offered me the Tuesday night jazz show which I did for quite a while. I even filled in for Michael Patoray twice. It was the blues show for Neil Elwell I loved to do, and when he left to do more live gigs, I inherited it and did it for many years. I really appreciate all the different personalities at KPBX, the diversity and general acceptance of all, and love
that it reflects in the programming.

So in summary, my experiences are the bedrock of Village Rock. Rock music from everywhere, every genre, if one can accept ones mind around that concept. Or just think it as rock, with LOTS of flavor.
